Walking down the sweeping staircase to the grand ballroom, society figures arrived in their best suits and cocktail dresses, all set to sip champagne and pose for multiple cameramen. Ladies were browsing through the display of songket goods near the ballroom entrance, marvelling at the beautiful materials and designs. Shortly after everybody had taken their seats, the guests of honour, His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah arrived, accompanied by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and To’ Puan Sri Hidayah. Her Majesty then gracefully made her way to the stage and delivered a heartfelt speech to thank the guests for their generous contributions to the ball. Her Majesty’s speech strongly emphasised on the introduction of lightweight contemporary songket designs, the fruits of Yayasan Tuanku Nur Zahirah’s labour of love for two years. Applause filled the room as Her Majesty returned to her seat, before the lights dimmed for a video presentation featuring the efforts of songket weavers and their loyal dedication to their craft. Friendly waiters were already at hand to serve the delicious dinner. After the last of the meals were cleared away, the lights were dimmed yet once again for a spectacular musical performance by Stephen Rahman Hughes, M. Nasir, Faizal Tahir and Ida Mariana. The dancers and performers looked splendid wearing the latest songket creations by top local designers while they entertained the audience all night long.
